Turn Your Back This Fourth of July

by  via Eric Peters Autos

In a few days, we will all have an opportunity to peacefully inflict a major psychological blow on the rapidly coalescing police state by the simple but powerful act of refusing to play along with the absurd pantomime on the 4th of July that we live in an even nominally free country – one with the rule of law, an operative Constitution and respect for individual rights. One that isn’t a thugocracy.

We can turn our backs on the flag. Decline to participate when urged to cheer and sing.4th lead No fireworks. No barbeques.

We can sit down – and bow our heads.

We can mention the unmentionable: That there is no longer any meaningful limit to the power of the government over our lives. No line beyond which it may not tread. That it lies, spies and tyrannizes.

We can admit to ourselves the shoddy – and frightening – reality bubbling up all around us.

By so doing, we can shatter the illusion that this government operates with anything remotely approximating our consent. This is absolutely essential. The 4th of July pantomime requires that we deny the obvious – that we instead pretend we’re free people living in a free country; one in which the government is accountable to the people, one in which the government is limited by law. One in which people can’t simply be dragooned into prisons without due process, held incommunicado, tortured. A country with a president who doesn’t have kill lists – or use the instruments of state power to punish and intimidate his political opponents. One in which citizens must be suspected of a crime before their personal correspondence is filched through and recorded for later use against them. One in which a traveler is free from arbitrary and random searches of his person and effects.back turned One in which the attorney general of the United States isn’t able to get away with providing guns to gangs or brazenly lie about his use of the power of his office to go after political “enemies” rather than pursue justice.

All these things are everyday realities. And the reality is that the America we once celebrated on the Fourth of July is gone, replaced by something dark and ominous.

It is painfully obvious – so why pretend otherwise?

More to the point, why should we celebrate this ugly transformation?

Mourning is what’s called for.

If we decline to play along – and we still have this option, for the moment – we can shatter the idea that all of the foregoing loathsomeness is done with our approval. We can redefine the relationship between ourselves and the government in an honest way. No more pretending we’re free. No more pretending we’re protected by the rule of law – and not ruled over by a thug caste – a mafia – that does literally whatever it wants, to anyone, at any time – without any real consequences whatsoever. None of this requires elaboration. Everyone knows it to be true. The Constitution is no longer even payed lip service to. It is a sick joke.

We are in the position of a battered spouse who is expected to rouge her bruises and tell her friends that – whoops! – she fell down the stairs. But hubby is a swell guy.beaten wife

I say, to hell with that.

I say, let’s not give them the cover they still apparently crave. I say, let’s out them – by openly displaying our bruises and no longer denying how we got them. Let the world see the true nature of the relationship between us and those who rule us.

China had its Tiananmen Moment – when one brave man stood up to a column of tanks and changed history by the simple act of refusing to play along. By peacefully forcing the thugocracy’s hand. It faced a hard choice: Either it could either run that man down in full view of live TV, crush him under the treads of a T-72 and thereby give real-life and incontrovertible evidence of the true nature of the relationship of the Chinese government vis-a-vis the average Chinese. Or it could back down – and thereby be compelled to alter the relationship in a way at least somewhat more favorable to the average Chinese.4th final

We have a similar opportunity coming up. A chance to confront the police state by refusing to pretend it’s not a police state. By coming to grips with what it is.

And what it is is nothing to celebrate.

I urge you to join me this July 4th in turning your back on the flag – on all grotesque homilies to a country that no longer exists, because of the government which does exist – and which desperately wants us to keep on playing patty cake and pretending that it doesn’t.

Throw it in the Woods?

About Land & Livestock Interntional, Inc.

Land and Livestock International, Inc. is a leading agribusiness management firm providing a complete line of services to the range livestock industry. We believe that private property is the foundation of America. Private property and free markets go hand in hand—without property there is no freedom. We also believe that free markets, not government intervention, hold the key to natural resource conservation and environmental preservation. No government bureaucrat can (or will) understand and treat the land with as much respect as its owner. The bureaucrat simply does not have the same motives as does the owner of a capital interest in the property. Our specialty is the working livestock ranch simply because there are so many very good reasons for owning such a property. We provide educational, management and consulting services with a focus on ecologically and financially sustainable land management that will enhance natural processes (water and mineral cycles, energy flow and community dynamics) while enhancing profits and steadily building wealth.

It is a celebration of “Thanks … .” The very thought of turning your back on the flag (if known) should produce the attention you desire … with consequence. Dumb advice.

  3. I stand for the Stars and Stripes, sorry.

Just a question, the flag here does not have stars, they look like those things all over the old French flag around the time of our founding, the one with a gold background. Nothing really, just odd..

This was written I believe in 2002:

“I don’t believe Americans really understand what July 4th is all about. July 4 isn’t about an “event” that occurred in 1776. It’s not like your birthday where people celebrate the day you were born. The United States wasn’t actually born on July 4. You had to win the war first. You stated your “intentions” on July 4.
July 4 was the start of the insurrection against the King. You celebrate July 4 to reaffirm your commitment to freedom, liberty, freedom of choice. And it is a warning to your government. It was the start, the beginning of a constant vigil.”

Eleven years later, the flame of the torch held high in that vigil has been extinguished. We have given our power over to the government to take care of us. We have a new king.

I stand with Eric and I believe with the true Stars and Stripes. I will be boycotting the day that is now a lie.

    • Very well put. We all (well, most of us anyway) love liberty. But, as you imply, the united States government has become the greatest enemy of life, liberty and property to ever have existed in the history of the earth.

And they depend heavily on the “flag waving” morons to convey their propaganda.

  5. Well, let’s see. Let’s do a line by line analysis of the pledge.

“I pledge allegiance to the “flag…” A piece of cloth.

“of the united States of America” An out of control police state government that does not, in any way shape or form, represent America or Americans. A mafia like criminal organization that stands for everything that America does NOT.

“and to the Republic for which it stands.” Republic, what republic? There has been no republic since the day General Lee walked out of that courthouse.

“one nation.” Which was founded by 13 free, independent and sovereign states. The founding documents were written in the plural–e.g. “these” (plural, lower case) united (lower) States. Today the monster is referred to in the singular The (singular, upper case) United (upper case) States. It has been that way since the War of Yankee aggression.

“under God.” Who got kicked out of the mandatory government propaganda camps a long time ago.

“with liberty and justice for all.” And if you don’t believe that, they will drive a drone up your ass.

  8. I believe the official signing was July 2nd with the exception of the New York delegate, he got word from New York on July 4th what to do then signed the Declaration making it unanimous. I think that is how that happened referring to the “made public” reference.

  9. Please don’t take this a argumentative or in any way trying to make light to the subject here as it is very serious indeed in these troubling times we are living in. I don’t know that a personal protest of not participating in any events or perhaps gatherings will make that much of a statement, a meaningful message of why. Just a short personal story of something like this..

Went to an arena indoor football game in Tacoma, WA some years ago, they sang “America the Beautiful” and everyone stood and placed their hand on their heart, my friends and I sat quietly in amazement. A few moments into the song people were staring at us as if we were communist, then some moron yelled at us from below some trash, others followed their lead and joined in. I stood and informed them all that this was not the national anthem and they were idiots for standing. The amazing part is they held that it just did not matter, no kidding, I sat down. Security came and asked us what our problem was, we explained and I called them a few things for talking to us and not the people that yelled at us in the first place, got expelled from the Tacoma Dome before kickoff. Moral is even if you are right the mob of idiots wins anyway.

Turn your back for what? I understand why of course but why bother to make a point to someone who will not understand even if you tried to explain it to them or don’t care because they are in it for the beer and party and nothing more. I have a cool video of explaining who we won our independence from, Mexico seems to be the popular answer. I feel we are in need of much stronger measures than passive resistance at this point in time.

Some here say I am a moron for honoring the flag. I am a moron? I am a moron! Am I a moron? I am a moron. I honor the flag for what it stands for, I think of all of the people who died for my Freedom when I honor it, I honor them. I do not throw my Bible across the room as I would a paperback novel, they are of course both books yet 1 I hold dear.

I don’t know what the right thing to do is all the time and if anything I do makes any difference. But I know me, I know what I feel about right and wrong, is it wrong to honor those 13 men who risk all, no I don’t think so. Is Hussein Obama II using me for propaganda, perhaps. I would rather make a stronger stand against tyranny that would make more of a difference in some way.

    • Since my line by line analysis of the pledge of allegiance to the flag seems to have had little to no effect, I will remind those of you that believe it “symbolizes” something (like the original idea behind the Declaration of Independence) of a couple of pertinent facts.

The pledge came along way after America was founded. It wasn’t written and published until 1892 by one Francis Bellamy who was a Baptist preacher who had been kicked out of the church for preaching that Christ was a socialist. He was also one of the earliest advocates for using the public schools as instruments of “social change.”

It was a brainwashing instrument from the beginning and still is a brainwashing instrument. And the proof is all around us.

      • PS. Very few people have ever died for anybody’s freedom. The last one of those wars that the uS government fought was the war of 1812. Also, the Texas revolution, being a war for independence, would qualify as a justifiable war. The last justifiable war fought on the continent was fought by the South during the War of Yankee Aggression.

All the rest have died for nothing but the aggrandizement of the State and the enrichment of the politicos and their cronies in the military-industrial-congressional-educational complex.

      • Your time is not wasted, I am beginning to understand your point much better, thank you for taking the time laying it out is simple terms for me. I will look into what you said above, if it is so then I will most likely repeat to others what I have learned here about the origins and intent of the Pledge of Allegiance.
I am a bit thick headed of course about some things, I said the pledge in school from grade 1-8 and it is in me, it seems you just may have fixed me on this, for that I thank you!

      • You are right on this, man this is enlightening indeed, I will post a story on it.
