So outraged was Sanchez when he heard Esperanza Quintero use the word in a moment of extreme frustration that he was willing to let a young man die and to increase the level of stress for this scared teenaged girl.

A teenager who has been shot and is gravely  The Betrayed: On Warriors, Cowboys and Other Misfitswounded, a friend who is on her phone talking to a 911 dispatcher, and one “bad word.” Fuck. That’s the word that so incensed Albuquerque emergency dispatcher Matthew Sanchez on June 26 that he hung up on a hysterical girl who was trying to get help for her dying friend. Fuck. Apparently he had Reconnaissance Marine MCI 03.32f: Marine Corps Institutenever heard it before in his 10-year career with the city’s Fire Department. Had never heard it from any other distraught and stressed citizen. Had never heard it uttered even once by a colleague. Had never even said it himself in a rare moment of aggravation.

QUINTERO, the caller: I’m doing CPR as we speak. I’m keeping him alive.

SANCHEZ, the dispatcher: Okay, is he not breathing?

QUINTERO: Barely. Stay with him. [inaudible] Stay with him, good job. Just stay with me, okay, okay. There you go. Good job Jaydon.

SANCHEZ: Is he breathing?

QUINTERO: He’s barely breathing. How many times do I have to f—— tell you?

SANCHEZ: Okay, you know what ma’am? You could deal with it yourself. I’m not gonna deal with this, okay?

QUINTERO: No, my friend is dying —

Sanchez ended the call mid-sentence.

Limited Government) (Volume 1) The Essence of Liberty: Volume II: The Economics of Liberty (Volume 2) The Essence of Liberty: Volume III: A Universal Philosophy of Political Economy (Liberty: A Universal Political Ethic) (Volume 3)So outraged was Sanchez when he heard Esperanza Quintero use the word in a moment of extreme frustration that he was willing to let a young man die and to increase the level of stress for this scared teenaged girl.

Environmental & Natural Resource Economics: The Austrian ViewEmergency responders were already on their way to the scene, an apparent drive-by shooting where the shot teen, Jaydon Chavez-Silver, was not the target. He was attending a house party when the random shots hit him. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

A Handbook for Ranch Managers Planned Grazing: A Study Guide and Reference Manual Ah, but Sanchez, he of the virgin ears, knew only that, while crews were en route, a hysterical young woman used the very bad word and he was so upset that he hung up on her. For this he was placed on administrative leave. Slap on hands, tsk tsk tsk, naughty boy! After local media got wind of the story, it was picked up by national news. Tuesday evening, Matthew Sanchez resigned.

All this over a word. Fuck. All this over someone who refused to do his job because he could not handle the sound of one word. Fuck. All this over an innocent man dead from random gunshots and a frightened young woman who used one bad word in a moment of frustration. Fuck.

Why is this word considered the “Queen Mother of Bad Words,” as Ralphie from “A Christmas Story” so solemnly opined. We’re all adults here, but even kids learn this word and know it and use it when no grown-up ears are there to hear. It is one of several words that are considered taboo in “polite company” and in many social and official settings. Decorum demands certain standards in certain situations, and that is understandable. A shooting victim bleeding on the floor, dying while a friend performs CPR and tries to get help is NOT one of those situations.

Ms. Quintero even apologized to Sanchez in an interview on KOAT-TV ” “I’m sorry. I’m sorry that I gave you attitude or I got upset with you,” she said, adding she does not think that excuses his reaction.”

I would like to feel sorry that a 10-year veteran firefighter is out of a job. I do feel sorry for his family, just as my heart aches for the family of Jaydon Chavez-Silver and for Esperanza Quintero who lost a friend and who needed reassurance and comfort that she did not get from 911 dispatcher Matthew Sanchez. Credit is due Sanchez, though, for finally, over one month after the fact, doing the right thing: resigning. If someone is of the temperament that the use of one word from a hysterical caller prevents them from doing their job, then they clearly are in the wrong profession.

About Land & Livestock Interntional, Inc.

Land and Livestock International, Inc. is a leading agribusiness management firm providing a complete line of services to the range livestock industry. We believe that private property is the foundation of America. Private property and free markets go hand in hand—without property there is no freedom. We also believe that free markets, not government intervention, hold the key to natural resource conservation and environmental preservation. No government bureaucrat can (or will) understand and treat the land with as much respect as its owner. The bureaucrat simply does not have the same motives as does the owner of a capital interest in the property. Our specialty is the working livestock ranch simply because there are so many very good reasons for owning such a property. We provide educational, management and consulting services with a focus on ecologically and financially sustainable land management that will enhance natural processes (water and mineral cycles, energy flow and community dynamics) while enhancing profits and steadily building wealth.
