Revisionist History Hits Roadblock in Alabama As Monuments Find Protection

As if it weren’t enough for the liberals of our nation to control the current historical narrative via their stranglehold on the mainstream media, the left has been intimately involved in revising past history as well.

The Essence of Liberty: Volume I: Liberty and History: The Rise and Fall of the Noble Experiment with Constitutionally Limited Government (Liberty and ... Limited Government) (Volume 1)

Usually, anyone who refers to the War of Yankee Aggression as a “civil” war looses his/her credibility with informed Southerners. Also, West uses the term “revisionist history” in a sense that is backwards to what it means to Al Benson and I (and many others).

Nevertheless, the news is good. Ou rah! to Alabama. — jtl, 419

The Essence of Liberty: Volume III: A Universal Philosophy of Political Economy (Liberty: A Universal Political Ethic) (Volume 3)One of their favorite targets has been the American Civil War, and it’s a fairly transparent tactic.

The left has spent countless decades attempting to vilify the South by publicly shaming them for the slavery that “caused the Civil War”, when, in fact, the war itself was truly and unequivocally a result of northern lawmakers’ attempts to sabotage the sovereignty provided by states’ rights as the nation continued westward in Manifest Destiny.  Truth aside, the slavery story is what children are taught in schools across the non-southern United States.

The Essence of Liberty: Volume II: The Economics of Liberty (Volume 2)Now, in modern context, the left has allowed a sneaky game of association to play out.  By equating the South with slavery, (read:  Evil), the modern republican grasp on this portion of the United States inherently becomes evil as well.  History will teach us that a republican emancipated the slaves, however, the well-trained modern conjecture is that southerners, current day republicans as a whole, were evil slave holders.  It is merely another trick of perception by the mainstream elitist media.

Combat Shooter's Handbook Reconnaissance Marine MCI 03.32f: Marine Corps Institute The Betrayed: On Warriors, Cowboys and Other MisfitsIn this quest to keep southerners under their thumb, and under the auspices of “political correctness”, liberals the nation over have begun demanding that statues, monuments, and celebrations with Confederate subject matter be swept under the rug or destroyed altogether.  It is the epitome of revisionist history, and it is a menace to our nation’s future.

A Handbook for Ranch Managers Planned Grazing: A Study Guide and Reference ManualEnvironmental & Natural Resource Economics: The Austrian ViewLuckily, the great state of Alabama recognizes the issue, and is taking steps to avoid such a fate.

“Alabama lawmakers of Friday approved sweeping protections for Confederate monuments, names and other historic memorials, as some Southern cities rethink the appropriateness of keeping such emblems on public property.

“The measure ‘would prohibit the relocation, removal, alteration, renaming, or other disturbance of any architecturally significant building, memorial building, memorial street, or monument’ that has stood on public property for 40 or more years,’ it reads. Changes to names or memorials installed between 20 and 40 years ago would need permission from a new state commission.

“African-American lawmakers opposed the bill at every step of the legislative process, saying argued that solidifies a shameful legacy of slavery.

“‘You say we are protecting history. We are not protecting history. We are protecting monuments that represent oppression to a large part of the people in the state of Alabama,’ said Sen. Hank Sanders, an African-American Democrat from Selma.

“Supporters argued that the measure should protect all kinds of history — not just Confederate symbols.

“Sen. Gerald Allen, the bill’s Republican sponsor, criticized what he called a ‘wave of political correctness’ wiping out monuments to people he said were historically significant even if they had their personal flaws.”

Every now and then we are able to celebrate common sense victories such as this one, but not without sacrifice.

Just last week, a Confederate monument in Louisiana was removed at the behest of left-leaning groups.

About Land & Livestock Interntional, Inc.

Land and Livestock International, Inc. is a leading agribusiness management firm providing a complete line of services to the range livestock industry. We believe that private property is the foundation of America. Private property and free markets go hand in hand—without property there is no freedom. We also believe that free markets, not government intervention, hold the key to natural resource conservation and environmental preservation. No government bureaucrat can (or will) understand and treat the land with as much respect as its owner. The bureaucrat simply does not have the same motives as does the owner of a capital interest in the property. Our specialty is the working livestock ranch simply because there are so many very good reasons for owning such a property. We provide educational, management and consulting services with a focus on ecologically and financially sustainable land management that will enhance natural processes (water and mineral cycles, energy flow and community dynamics) while enhancing profits and steadily building wealth.
