Jury Nullification May Be The Most Important Thing You Hear About All Day: The Just Us Movement

Last week I was sitting around a table in a beautiful setting, drinking wine, surrounded by eight of the largest names in the freedom movement. I’ll get to why we were all there in a moment, but as usually happens with all libertarians the discussion got quite intense. The general theme was that the answer to the problems in the US today isn’t voting, or democracy. And that there is hardly any way to make changes for the better in the US anymore.

Then Josh Tolley, of the popular, syndicated radio show under his own name, brought up jury nullification.

He stated: “This is the only way that we, the people, can actually effect any changes towards liberty in the US anymore.  It is the only way to get justice!”

I leaned back and said, “Justice? Who? Just us?”

And a movement was formed!

All nine of us then, in that moment, agreed to put our collective readership/viewership (which is well into the multi-millions) behind this movement.

That video and idea was fomented at Galt’s Gulch Chile, by the way. As I have always said, when freedom minded people come together in the same place great things and ideas can happen.

Ben Swann also makes the case in the short two minute video above for why you should care about jury nullification if you care about freedom. But, to further his points, here is a take on jury nullification and why it is so important.

JURY NULLIFICATION: THE JUST US MOVEMENT

The blasted envelope has shown up again in your mailbox. You must “Serve Your Country”.

No, it’s not a draft notice. It’s the other one, jury duty

Someone’s fate lies in your hands. Some people might like the feeling of power they get. Most people just scramble and counter that they are too busy studying for a degree they completed years ago or that they are too busy raising their twenty-something year-old children.

But, by dodging jury “duty”, you might be missing out on much more than the $0.04 you make per day.

First of all, you’re a “bad citizen.” There, I (an anarchist) said it. The only way left for a US citizen today to make a difference, after all, is via jury nullification!

It’s not only your right, but your responsibility as a person who claims to love freedom.

JURY DUTY IS THE ONLY STATIST RELATED “DUTY” WE SUPPORT

The fabric of American society depends on the right to “trial by jury”, and by one’s peers, of course. There’s no need to impede justice and the court system. Simply nullify. Don’t let the state punish people for so-called “crimes” that don’t actually have any victims. Jury nullification has been used to protect religious freedom, protect escaped chattel slaves and to fight alcohol prohibition. The founders knew that the jury and the power of nullification therein were vital components of fighting growing tyranny.

You don’t want to be swept up when they reinstate capital punishment for jury evaders or maybe just fine you. So, stop fumbling with invalid reasons that the court will likely reject anyway. Even if your reason is valid, they’ll likely do so. Instead, let those accused of victimless crimes walk instead of rotting in a rape cage because of some unjust law.

Yes, this is participating in the unjust, violence-backed circus of the state and its law-punishment complex.

But unlike voting, this is a way to get involved with the corrupt system and actually make a difference. You can actually save a life by doing this. You actually have the power all on your own to prevent the state from destroying someone who has done harm to no one. And, many of those people, who were caught with some flowers in their pocket (marijuana) or who drank three beers and drove and didn’t hurt anyone, have a family. The victimless-crime legal system destroys not only the perpetrator of the non-crime but their family as well in many instances.

That’s the power you as just one, lone, principled liberty-lover have. Imagine if you join with thousands of others across the US. Now, mind you, if there is actually a victim, then you should absolutely vote for what is right. But with roughly 80% of the kidnap victims suffering in American jails being there for daring to make personal choices about what they put in their own bodies or which plants they bought and sold, we’d say there is plenty of opportunity for you to nullify and roll back the state and grow freedom.
